Meridian Director

Way back in November of 1990 Stereophile reviewed the Meridian 203.  Robert Harley was unequivocal in his praise for this unit stating, it “sets a new standard of performance ….”  The 203 actually spent a few years in Stereophile’s Recommended Components (category Class B).  At the time I was convinced and voted with my wallet.  By now you’re asking what is the relevance of a 23 year old digital to analogue converter.  Fast forward to the present and let us welcome the Director ($750.00), the heir apparent to that venerable class leader.  Back when I purchased the 203, the dollar was in the tank and I bet I paid fifteen hundred-or so dollars.  Thankfully, the passage of time has enabled Meridian to create a DAC that is half the price and probably smokes the 203 in all musically relevant categories.
